What Does Test Optional Admissions Mean For Prospective Student-Athlete Recruits?
I talk to a high academic university football coach on its impact with recruiting.
The NYTimes reported in May 2020 that nearly all of the nations higher academic college and even some larger brand name schools were going “test optional” in the wake of the corona virus pandemic.
To many this is a sigh of relief. Personally, I loathed taking the SAT (I didn’t even try to joke with myself about taking the ACT). A test optional admissions process might also bring promise of a more holistic approach to student intelligence than the stale and stagnated standardized test method universities have used for years.
SAT/ACT scores, however, have played a large role in determining where particularly recruits might be placed along a college coach’s recruiting board. At the Ivy, Patriot and NESCAC Leagues, for example, recruits are broken up into academic band systems.
